Department of Defense (DOD) Reference Code DCPH-P-2024-0001 How to Apply Description The Defense Centers for Public Health – Portsmouth (DCPH-P) ensures Navy and Marine Corps Readiness through leadership in prevention of disease and promotion of health.
Through the ORISE program, the DCPH-P provides opportunities to participate in on-going applied research and development projects in the areas of Environmental Health, Engineering, Biological Sciences, Public Health, Occupational and Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Sanitation and Hygiene, and Laboratory Services.
What will I be doing? Under the guidance of a software engineering mentor, you will be involved with and learn how to: Conduct public health related data mining and collection.
Develop applications and data collection solutions in support of clinical epidemiology, infectious disease, behavioral health, occupational and environmental epidemiology and injury and healthcare epidemiology.
Web and desktop-based application and solution development utilizing C#, HTML, XML, JavaScript, CSS, and/or T-SQL.
Provide rapid response to request for outbreak and disease information.
Provide IT related assistance in support of epidemiological studies and public health related IT systems.
Integrate health data with other data types to provide robust data sets.
Conduct data quality analysis and evaluation, determine potential data cleaning rules, and solutions.
Prepare raw health data for epidemiologic analysis.

About ORISE This program, administered by Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) through its contract with the U.

Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and DoD.
Participants do not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DoD, or any other office or agency.
Instead, you will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.
Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program.

Qualifications Qualified candidates must be a current student pursuing a Bachelor's degree or be post Bachelor's degree.
Highly competitive applicants will have experience or skills in the following: Knowledge of languages and practices needed to develop web pages and to convert user-developed content into workable Web pages, create easily navigable Web pages and basic scripts or code, evaluate code and repair errors, and builds or support Web-enabled database applications.
Ability to create Internet and desktop-based applications that enhance user-developed content and meet business and technical requirements and deliver e-commerce and e-Government products and services to internal and external audiences.
Provide Internet services that optimize customer experiences and ensure Internet services comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act and other related requirements.
Ability to support web related activities and develop web applications and web portals.
Experience with Interactive HTML, JavaScript, C#, Microsoft.

Experience with T-SQL and SQL Server 2012 or higher.
Experience with Windows Server 2012 or higher.
