Overview:
Inspects working conditions, collects data and manages hazardous, biohazardous, and radioactive materials, to ensure compliance with EPA, OSHA, DOT, NRC, and other applicable regulations.
Responsibilities:
Provide and facilitate services to the EVMS community, to ensure campus safety and welfare.
Assist Safety Officers with routine activities.
Perform data entry, record keeping, and archival tasks.
Perform QA/QC functions.
Handle various types of chemical, biological and radioactive wastes; collect, characterize, segregate, safe storage, and packaging.
Perform and document the testing and inspection of safety showers and emergency eyewashes.
Fit-Test people for best respirator size.
Perform chemical and radioactive materials inventories.
Collect and segregate chemicals, batteries, and plastics, for recycling.
Perform and document radiation contamination surveys.
Assist with and document, laboratory inspections and, indoor air quality investigations.
Validate ventilation engineering controls performance.
Manage and update Safety Data Sheet records.
Validate autoclave function.
Assist Safety Officers with the preparation, delivery and documentation of training products.
Coordinate the use of emergency cold storage equipment.
Calibrate and use industrial hygiene equipment.
Assist with environmental sampling and sample management.
Update laboratory signage and hazard communication.
Deliver ionizing radiation.
Respond to chemical, biological and radioactive material spills.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High School diploma plus seven (7) years of related experience required (one (1) year working with safety procedures preferred).
Bachelor’s degree in a physical science is preferred.
Current OSHA HAZWOPER training preferred.
CBRN experience preferred.
