gov/ Recruitment Type: General Public - G Job Duties Southeastern Virginia Training Center is seeking an individual to provide Therapeutic Recreation services and leisure education for assigned caseload and other individuals when assigned.
Is assigned a case load for recreation therapy.
Assesses physical, cognitive, social, emotional and behavioral functioning as it relates to leisure behavior.
Develops programs to achieve goals through the use of structured and systematic interventions that improve client functioning and independence.
Assures that all components of a comprehensive treatment plan are obtained.
Monitors and maintains materials and equipment provided for leisure programs.
Works with individuals in a variety of settings such as horticulture, aquatics, arts/crafts, bowling, etc.
Acts as a member of the interdisciplinary team with initial development and ongoing update of person-centered plans related to recreation.
Implements programs in accordance with choices and preferences of the individual balanced with priorities established by the IDT.
Coordinates recreational activities with center staff.
Provides center wide recreation activities as directed.
Develops and submits monthly recreation activity schedule to supervisor.
This position is considered Essential Personnel and would be required to work in the event of an emergency or facility need.
All SEVTC positions are required to work different shifts and/or overtime as requested.
(Mandatory Pre service training class is Mon-Fri, 12 days long 8:00 am to 4:30 pm).
Minimum Qualifications • Valid Driver’s license required.
• Knowledge of theories and practical application of recreation therapy, recreation/leisure programming for ID, including the ability to adapt programs and materials when necessary.
• Knowledge of community opportunities for recreation/leisure.
• Knowledge of medical, psychological, and pharmaceutical issues related to care and programming.
• Skills required to teach activities such as bowling, arts/crafts, aquatics, etc.
Good oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to organize work responsibilities and manage time effectively.
Additional Considerations * Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) preferred.
* Bachelor’s Degree in Recreational Therapy or closely related field preferred.
*Prior work experience providing recreation therapy for individuals with ID/DD preferred.
