Sentara Norfolk General Hospital Medicine Unit is hiring a Full-Time, Night Shift, Patient Care Technician (PCT)! Hours/Shift: Full-time (36 hours), night shift (7PM-7AM) Department Overview: Join our 36-bed medical surgical unit! This unit cares for patients with general high acuity medical/surgical needs to include seizures, neuro, ortho, GI bleeds, drug or alcohol withdraws, respiratory patients and patients who have had neck and back surgery.

From taking vitals to blood draws and daily care.
The primary duties of this position include supporting the admission/discharge process, changing, bathing ambulating patients, drawing blood, foley catheter care, meeting patient needs while working under the direct supervision of a nurse.

Minimum Requirements: High School Diploma or Equivalent AND one of the following Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, or Successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), or National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), or Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, or Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, or Current student enrolled in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) having completed at least one semester of RN, LPN, RT or PT, or Current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant American Health Associate BLS Certification (required within 90 days of hire) Preferred: One year of prior health care experience Benefits: Sentara offers an attractive array of full-time benefits to include Medical, Dental, Vision, Paid Time Off, Sick, Tuition Reimbursement, a 401k/403B , 401a, Performance Plus Bonus, Career Advancement Opportunities, Work Perks and more.

Provide patient care, support the admissions and discharge process, and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional nurse.
Observe patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report any change to the nursing.
For those acting as Safety Partners, de-escalation and physical intervention training within 30 days of hire, except for those in Behavioral Health within 15 days of hire.
One of the following programs is acceptable for education: Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, or current student enrolled in a clinical program having completed at least one semester of a (RN, LPN, RT or PT) or current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant.
One year of health care experience preferred.
AHA BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
Basic Life Support (BLS) - Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) RQI Certified Patient Care Technician/Assistant (CPCT/A) - Certification - National Healthcareer Association (NHA) High School Grad or Equivalent
