General Statement of the Job & Essential Functions
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under general supervision, this position coordinates the provision of medical services in the substance abuse outpatient clinic.
Reports to the Program Administrator.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Coordinates medical information documentation for all intakes and client follow up visits; ensures registry is checked before admission to the clinic; documents services rendered daily; assists medical physician with physicals, processes orders and dispenses medication; prepares lab work and performs phlebotomies.
Recognizes symptoms and client condition/needs and makes referrals to various health care facilities, works with medical management nurses and assists pharmacist as needed, and advises program administrator of any unusual medical problems or behaviors of clients; prepares necessary paperwork and reports regarding client services and accommodating clients from other methadone clinics.
Attends case reviews and advises counselors of updated and pertinent medical information, assures assigned supervised activities comply with City, State and federal laws and regulations; works with Program Administrator to ensure adequate daily staffing, and coverage to meet staffing needs generated by client appointments and physician's hours; and assists the pharmacist as needed.
Monitors the collection of urine specimens in the absence of Counselor; performs HIV pre-and post-counseling in the absence of HIV Therapist; coordinates and facilitates Methadone Education Classes; and orders all medical supplies and equipment.
Performs other related work as required.
Individual assignments will be determined by supervisor based on current workload and department needs.

Safety and Housekeeping: Adheres to all safety and housekeeping standards established by the city and various regulatory agencies.
Sees that the standards are not violated.

Education, Experience & Special Requirements EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Licensed Practical Nurse with a valid LPN license to practice in Virginia with 1 - 2 years of progressively responsible experience providing nursing services to substance abuse clients; methadone dispensing experience is preferred or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required education and experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Requires licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Must have or able to pass Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid Certifications or have the ability to obtain certifications within 90 days from date of hire and maintain them as a condition of employment.
An acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history check and sex offender registry check.
A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Individuals in this position cannot be listed as having a founded child abuse or neglect complaint.
Requires satisfactory results from pre-employment substance abuse testing and is subject to random alcohol and controlled substance testing.
Physical Demands Physical Requirements: Requires the ability to lift and pull up to 20 pounds of force occasionally.
Requires prolonged visual concentration, stooping, kneeling, climbing and balancing.
