Battelle's Health Research and Analytics (HRA) business line is currently seeking an Epidemiologist I to support our government customer in Portsmouth, VA (remote available).
This Public Health (PH) program enables our government customer to maximize readiness through force health protection (FHP) strategies and solutions for current and potential Public Health (PH) threats.
The core scientific and technical capabilities and product lines in this program are to conduct Health Surveillance, Epidemiology, and Analysis; Disease and Injury Prevention; and PH Consultation and Support for the benefit of active-duty service members, retirees, and their families.
Battelle shall enable these capabilities and product lines by providing Scientific and Technical Information (STI) deliverables, by performing Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E), and other Research and Development (R&D) related analytical services.
This position supports work in Aberdeen, MD, which provides data analysis for public health surveillance.
Job Summary Supports epidemiologic scientific and technical analysis for the customer’s public health programs including analyses of clinical data, medical and environmental health data, surveillance (including biosurveillance), and health assessments to develop studies, reports, and recommendations to prevent disease and injury and to improve health and medical readiness, value, quality, cost, and availability of care.
Responsibilities Establishes data requirements from a non‐technical customer, writes the applicable programs, and delivers the results in a comprehensible format.
Extracts data - in particular military healthcare claims data - from large tables.
Formulates data collection, study design, and analysis plans.
Provides SAS programming and technical expertise on statistical analysis, methods, and techniques for epidemiological or research studies.
Constructs SAS programs.
Reviews SAS programs others have written for correctness and efficiency.
Routinely explores existing databases and resources to identify opportunities to improve existing or create new products.
Key Qualifications Master of science degree in epidemiology, public health, or related fields.
Minimum 3 years’ SAS experience writing and debugging programs.
Expertise of the SAS language and/or other statistical packages such as R.
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.
S.
government security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications Minimum of three years’ experience in biostatistics or epidemiology.
Ability to apply and interpret analytical and mathematical tools through the programming environment to address complex issues involving multiple table structures with complex query designs.
Experience manipulating complex datasets, specifically healthcare claims data.
Familiarity with ICD-9/10-CM diagnosis and procedures codes and CPT codes.
Experience with Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium (CDISC) Standards.
Experience utilizing Military Medicine Data: MHS, AHLTA, M2, MDR and MIP, CarePoint MHS Population Health Portal, or MHS Genesis.
Experience in publishing and presenting findings at state or national conferences.
Experience with PubMed, Medline and/or RefWorks.
Cost benefit (ROI) analysis experience.
Experience in military medicine.
