Purpose and Scope of Job:
Sr.
Aftermarket Engineer will be a technical expert for all Sumitomo products.
The candidate will manage the Aftermarket Engineers and assist Sumitomo employees and customers by providing technical support in commissioning and troubleshooting activities utilizing their experience in power transmission equipment and applications.
Will provide field service support, perform failure analysis, and provide technical reports for gearbox and gearmotor repairs and failures.
Essential Functions (other duties may be assigned):
Create professional-quality failure reports with accurate root cause failure analysis
Professionally communicate findings and recommendations to internal and external customers in meetings or calls
Communicate operational or design improvements to customers as it relates to the product being serviced
Support repairs workshop in trouble shooting and determining if parts are reusable or need replacement or rework
Support SMA external and internal customers requiring application assistance relating to SMA products / services.
Supervise the Aftermarket Engineer as it relates to productivity, scheduling, training and performance measurements
Author technical papers relating to application expertise; Present the information internally in SMA and externally.
Maximize SMA revenue & profitability while controlling commercial and technical risk exposure on repair orders.
Control, manage and develop all application standards, resources, and information.
Support PM efforts to help resolve order fulfillment problems and issues relating to technical matters.
Support Marketing and R&D with technical expertise and verification of technical information.
Champion assigned application and failure analysis training for internal and external customers.
Participate in process improvement efforts as necessary.
Participate in industry and association meetings and represent SMA as an applications expert.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical) , or equivalent experience with at least ten (10) years experience in the rotating equipment industry.
Strong knowledge of power transmission failure analysis including AGMA failure modes
Strong knowledge of Project and Specifications Management, internal gearing product application, and related commercial issues.
Experience in formal business communication techniques.
Strong communications skills; both verbal and written.
Good decision-making and problem-solving abilities based on analytical / statistical approach.
Creation, organization and maintenance of Project Order documentation and communications
Summarizing Project and Applications through reports and presentations.
