Description
The City of Norfolk's Slover is currently seeking a Multimedia Communications Specialist that assists the Manager of Visitor Marketing through a variety of media formats, including but not limited to print, web, social media, photography, and video to promote The Slover and its public offerings.
Assists with promoting programs and events.
Performs special projects.
Performs a variety of administrative, financial, and budgetary.
The Slover located in downtown Norfolk is comprised of 4 unique areas: venue rentals, business center, creative studios, and the Downtown Branch at Slover.
Essential Functions
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
Creates original content (video, photography, social media, website, etc.
) which promotes and informs city services.
Writes copy and creates visuals that appropriate for various city-owned platforms, including social media, TV48, and website.
Liaison to various city departments, supports special events, works collaboratively with Communications team.
Serves in the Joint Information Center (JIC) when activated in natural or man-made crises.
Duties as assigned.
Promotes programs and agendas by responding to inquiries from media, writing occasional press releases, presentations and public service announcements, updating the website and submitting daily program information.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience
Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field.
Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
Advanced experience with media monitoring practices such as capturing initial impressions of a campaign across multiple media platforms, as well as media analytics such as gathering and analyzing data over time for purpose of evaluating the effectiveness of communication strategies and informing future decision making.
Advanced experience with digital content management practices such as creating and maintaining tailored content on an organization's website, social media, and other digital platforms for the purpose of informing, educating, and empowering internal and external stakeholders.
Basic experience with Adobe Creative Cloud software applications such as InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
1 year experience in communications or related field
Work requires the ability to read correspondence, publications, reports, legal documents, and promotional materials.
Prioritizing work to meet deadlines.
Prepare neat and thorough documents and monthly reports.
Additional Information & Requirements
Work Hours: This position is 40 hours per week.
Workdays and hours will vary depending on organizational needs.
The facility will be open Monday-Sunday 9 a.
m.
-7 p.
m.
This position will require flexibility to work weekend and evening schedules.
Signing Bonus: This position is eligible for a one-time $5000 sign on bonus.
