Job Description Looking to make a difference? We’re looking for you! BAE Systems in Norfolk, Virginia, is hiring for a Safety Tech III.
In this role as a Safety Tech, you will be responsible in performing daily inspections of various work areas including sea going vessels, piers, docks, and buildings.
Included responsibilities of the Safety Tech: Ensure compliance with safety / health regulations, company policies and procedures, consensus standards, and customer requirements; Document inspections and communicate safety and health findings with subcontractors and customers on a daily basis; Identify and facilitate corrections of potential hazards, hazards and infractions, or ceasing operations until corrected; Conduct investigations of incidents, evidence collection and processing, interviews and report writing; Populate and maintain department data bases, archiving, report writing, maintaining files, etc.
; Areas of concern: Life and safety codes, safe work practices, personal protective equipment usage, walking and working surfaces, hot work, slips, trips, fall protections, fire prevention, housekeeping, confined and enclosed space entry, hazard communication standards and Global Harmonizing System, electrical safety, portable power usage, machine guarding, etc.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills Typically requires a High School diploma/GED and three (3) years experience as a Safety Technician or Inspector, or the overall equivalent, which could include experience in safety fields (civilian and military), and/or higher education; OSHA Maritime 10-Hour training.
Company will provide 24-Hour and annual 8-Hour update for Shipyard Competent Person training; Must have the ability to effectively communicate and interact with employees, management, customers, subcontractors and regulatory agencies; Ability to provide training to groups of various sizes; Able to perform evaluations and testing in various environments including but not limited to noise, illumination, atmospheric conditions (confined spaces), while ensuring proper working environments are established and maintained; Computer skills to include Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint); Capable of working in a variety of physically demanding environments and weather conditions including climbing, bending, crawling, working at heights, inside of enclosed and confined spaces, heat, rain, wind, etc.
; Must possess a valid driver's license; Able to acquire and maintain a government access badge; Note: This position is subject to overtime to include weekends and holidays.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills OSHA Maritime Safety Training (10 or 30 hour) certified; Completion of OSHA 5400-Trainer course for Maritime, OSHA 5410-Maritime Standards, OSHA 3095-Electrical Safety, OSHA 3115-Fall Protection and OSHA 521-Industrial Hygiene; Higher level education certificate and/or degree programs in Occupational Safety and Health; Maritime experience preferred, but not required.
Pay Information Full-Time Salary Range: $48200 - $77100 Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures.
However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
