POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Child Care Director and in harmony purpose of the established policies and goals of the YMCA, the Before & After School Lead is responsible for the general supervision and management of a group of no more than 15 children.
The School Age Child Care Counselor holds primary responsibility for the education, health, welfare, and safety of the children within his/her group.
The Before & After School Lead possesses the youth competencies for the job that will allow him/her to provide high quality child care at all times.
The YMCA mission is your highest priority and its goals for these children and their families are of the utmost importance.
A professional, clean appearance and a respectful and committed attitude are always the minimal expectation.
BEFOR & AFTER SCHOOL LEAD: Helps to carry out activities, experiences, and routines for children.
Promotes a team concept through a positive approach to supervision, communication, and interactions with others.
Builds effective, authentic relationship with children and their parents.
Adheres to all licensing standards.
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum 18 years or older Six or more months working with children- ages 5 weeks to 12 years old-in a licensed, child care setting CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to certify within 60 days of employment) Able to communicate and work effectively with groups of children and their parents in a loving yet professional manner Clear criminal record, CRC, and C.

Negative TB test Knowledge and maturity to observe children’s behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety practices and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques Ability to manage the daily administrative, program-related and supervisory responsibilities of the school-age child care program EXPECTATIONS: Treats everyone with courtesy, respect and consideration; displays integrity; listens actively and genuinely; communicates in a clear and pleasant manner; embraces differences among people; demonstrates an active willingness to learn and grow; accepts constructive criticism; and works cooperatively as a team member.

Attend trainings as required WORKING CONDITIONS: Requires a person of maturity and good judgment, who can operate with a minimum of guidance from the Youth Director Requires ability to exercise appropriate independent judgment, to assess facts and issues, and make non-routine decisions regarding day-to-day operational problems and issues Requires effective team-building and team-leadership skills Must maintain cooperative, functional relationships with senior leadership team, peers, and subordinates Must maintain positive, energetic attitude toward YMCA work, goals, and values.
Performs the duties of direct reports as needed ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Treats everyone with courtesy, respect and consideration; displays integrity; listens actively and genuinely; communicates in a clear and pleasant manner; embraces differences among people; demonstrates an active willingness to learn and grow; accepts constructive criticism; and works cooperatively as a team member Has a proven ability and concern for youth, and a desire to positively influence their development Has the ability and enthusiastic willingness to learn and lead games, crafts, songs and other program activities.
May be required to walk, stand, run, kneel, climb and stoop.
Must be able to sit on the floor and get back up Continuous operations requiring attention to detail and multi-tasking.
Must be able to lift, pull and pull up to 50 pounds Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time Must be physically able to successfully complete required certifications ACCOUNTABILITY: Accountable for completion of assigned goals as measured by the number of people served and service satisfaction scores.
